Data Deletion
This page explains how to delete data from IteroChat. It covers the businesses that run a workspace, and the people who message one of those businesses through a chat widget or a connected messaging channel such as WhatsApp. For the wider picture of what we collect and why, see our Privacy Policy.
If you run a workspace
Owners and admins can delete data themselves, at any time, without contacting us. Consider exporting first if you need a copy: Settings → Compliance → Export.
- One conversation. Open the conversation, use its actions menu, and select Erase permanently. This is irreversible and removes the transcript, its attachments, and its tags and notes.
- A connected channel. Open Settings → Integrations and select Disconnect on the connection. We stop sending and receiving messages for that account, and it no longer appears in your workspace. Conversations already received stay until you erase them or delete the workspace.
- Your entire workspace. Open Settings and use Delete organization. The workspace closes: no one can sign in to it, the chat widget stops serving, connected channels stop, and any subscription is cancelled. This step is recoverable, so it does not erase the content it holds on its own.
To have everything a workspace holds erased outright, email [email protected] from the address on your account and ask for full erasure; we will confirm when it is done. You can also email us to carry out any of the steps above on your behalf. Step-by-step guidance for the tools themselves lives in Data & privacy.
If you messaged a business that uses IteroChat
The business you contacted decides what is collected and how long it is kept, so it is the right first stop: ask them to erase your conversation, and they can do it with the tools above. If you cannot reach them, or you are not sure which business uses us, email [email protected] with the phone number or email you used and roughly when you wrote in, and we will locate the record and route the request to that business.
Connected messaging channels
When a business connects a messaging account to IteroChat, we receive the messages people send there so they can be answered from the business’s inbox. That means we hold a copy of the message content and any media, your identifier on that channel and your profile display name, and delivery status for replies. Deletion works the same way on every channel.
- Asking the provider to remove your data. If you remove IteroChat from your account with the provider that operates the channel, the provider notifies us and we erase the conversations, message content, and media we hold for that account. You are then sent to this page with a reference code.
- Asking us directly. Email [email protected] with the number or account you messaged from, and we will do the same.
- Copies held by the provider. The provider keeps its own records of your messages under its own terms, and we cannot delete those for you. Contact the provider for those.
On WhatsApp the identifier we hold is your WhatsApp phone number, shown with your WhatsApp profile display name, and the provider is Meta. To have Meta pass on a deletion request, remove IteroChat from the business integrations or apps section of your Facebook or Meta account settings. Messages kept by Meta or in the WhatsApp app itself are governed by Meta’s terms, so ask Meta about those.
Other channels
WhatsApp is the only connected channel available today. Every channel we add gets its own section here, with the same routes.
How long deletion takes
Deletions you perform in the dashboard take effect immediately. Requests sent by email are acknowledged and completed within 30 days, and sooner where the law requires it. As noted in our Privacy Policy, residual copies may remain in backups for a limited period before they are overwritten, and we may keep the minimum records we need to meet a legal obligation, such as billing history.
